The family experience behind Mary Care.

Jean and a young Michael together at the seaside
Jean and Michael, at the seaside. The family at the heart of Mary Care.

Mary Care didn’t begin as a business idea. It began with one family trying to make everyday life a little easier.

When our founder Michael’s mum, Jean, began to need more support, technology that should have helped was often adding complexity. Her phone became harder to use. Reminders could be missed. Calls went unanswered. And when family couldn’t be there, the worry stayed with them.

They were trying to hold on to two things that matter enormously: reassurance for the family and independence for Jean.

Something simpler, built around Jean

Michael began with Jean’s actual needs. Familiar people should be easy to reach. Reminders should be clear. Asking family for help should feel straightforward. The technology needed to fit her life.

What started as a simpler phone experience gradually became a connected platform, bringing together the person being supported and the family around them. Mary Care is named after Michael’s grandmother Mary, Jean’s mum, who quietly held the family together.

Shaping Mary with more families

Today, 21 September 2026, The family experience behind Mary Care. Four connected products are available:

  • Mary App: a simpler Android phone experience, built around familiar people and everyday needs.
  • Mary Companion: an Android and iOS app that helps trusted family members stay connected and provide support from their own phone.
  • Mary Portal: a secure place on the web to manage connected family support.
  • Mary TV: a familiar Mary experience for Android TV, bringing simpler technology to the biggest screen in the home.

Mary Watch is coming next. It will extend everyday support to Wear OS, but it is not yet publicly available.

A personal beginning. A wider purpose.

Dementia was the catalyst for Mary Care. It is part of our story, but it does not define everyone Mary is for.

Mary is for families supporting someone who may benefit from simpler technology, additional support or reassurance while continuing to live life their own way. That might mean making contact easier, sharing the small tasks of caring, or helping someone keep a routine that matters to them.

Diagnosis matters. What happens next matters too.

For our family, what happened next was learning how to support Jean day by day. Mary Care does not diagnose Alzheimer’s or provide clinical treatment. It is support technology, not a medical device, an emergency service or a replacement for professional care.

Our purpose is to help people stay independent for longer, help families worry a little less, and use technology to strengthen human care rather than replace it.

The technology has grown since that first version built for Jean. The reason for building it hasn’t changed.

Built for one family. Help shape what comes next.

Connected support. Everyday independence.
